It's strange that Poe couldn't publish this essay about the death drive, considering it was probably novel for its time. One cannot simply append a story to an essay, however, and call the whole a story.

There lives no man who at some period has not been tormented, for example, by an earnest desire to tantalize a listener by circumlocution.
